You don’t have to be an aspiring pro guide to benefit from this course. It was designed to provide participants with current knowledge and fundamentals to manage and supervise rappel operations and to lead technical outdoor adventures, focusing on canyoneering. The program is ideal for canyoneers and other practitioners of adventure-based and experiential education.
Successful completion of this course is one requirement for:
* CGI Recreational Canyon Leader Certification
* CGI Level 1 Guide Certification
* CGI Level 2 Guide Certification

**Topics covered in the course include:**
* problem-solving and decision-making methodologies
* recognizing and avoiding heuristic traps
* group dynamics and facilitation
* situational adaptation of leadership styles
* hazard identification, risk assessment and management
* site management and transitional safety systems
* efficient group movement through technical problems
* tips and tricks from Rich’s 40+ years canyoneering

**Prerequisites:**
* solid aptitude for knots and rope work
* solid rappelling skills, including ability to lock-off mid-rappel
**Gear Requirements:**
* harness
* helmet
* rappel/belay device
* 5-6 locking carabiners, HMS (pear shape) preferred
If you have additional gear, feel free to bring it, but it is not necessary to purchase anything special for the course, other than what is listed above. Additional gear will be available for you to borrow, try and purchase during the course.
