The CEM (for Cañonismo En Mexico) is a releasable knot, similar in function to the macrame. It can be used around natural anchors, especially trees, when insufficient webbing is available.
I love this technique! But you have to practice!! This is much more complicated than the macrome but it releases much more easily. I used this technique on a very long rappel as the LMAR. I had to pass a knot on rappel about 200 feet in the air while hanging on this thing. It worked! It was also super easy to pull. We could have pulled it with 2 fingers. Let me repeat…. You must practice this. It’s also good to test it with a safety in place. See the very last picture for where the safety is placed. Of course LMAR must remove the safety.
