Minimizing Risk

October 20 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MDT

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Instructor: Rich Carlson

Is canyoneering safe? No. It is fraught with risks. It includes all of the risks associated with any outdoor activity, plus all of the risks associated with rock climbing and rappelling, plus a few more risks that are unique to canyoneering due to the presence of water. If you want to be safe, stay home on the sofa. If you want to go canyoneering, you are wise to learn and practice ways to mitigate risks.

In this workshop we will discuss how to identify objective and subjective hazards, how to do an effective risk assessment, and simple controls that you can implement to mitigate risks. PLUS, tips and tricks from Rich’s four decades of canyoneering experience.

LOGIN: The link for this online class will be posted automatically 15 minutes before the scheduled start. You can log in via web browser or the Zoom app. Please note, the times are US Mountain Standard Time.

FORMAT: Rich will present fundamental principles in a 15-20 minute monologue, followed by questions from participants with Rich’s replies.

QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE: If you already know some questions that you want to ask that are related to this topic, please post them in the comment section below. You must be logged in to post.

PODCAST EPISODE? The online class will be recorded and Rich may choose to edit the recording for a future episode of his Canyoneering Karma podcast.
